

The Brett Walter team has been made the number one seed in CurlManitoba’s 2025 Chicken Chef Mixed Championship on Walter’s home ice, Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, March 13-16.
Jennifer Clark-Rouire, who will be playing lead for the second seeded Daniel Birchard team from Pembina, is the only member of last year’s champion team competing this year. The 2024 champion Ryan Wiebe team included Wiebe and Ty Dilello, who represented Ontario and Newfoundland respectively in the recent Montana’s Brier. It also included Shaela Hayward who is also not competing this year.
Three-time Manitoba Mixed champion and 2009 Canadian Mixed champion Sean Grassie and his Deer Lodge team have been made the third seed in the pre-event ranking by the competing teams.
Walter (Hailey McFarlane, Hugh McFarlane, Mackenzie Elias, Alternate Meghan Walter), Birchard (Lisa McLeod, Ian Fordyce, Jennifer Clark-Rouire, Alternate Nigel Milnes) and Grassie (Roxie Trembath, Jordan Johnson, Hilary Johnson, Alternate Tyler Drews, Alternate Shyla Johnson) will have first round byes in the 13-team, triple knock-out format, event. Six teams will advance to the playoffs.
Fourth seed in the Mixed Championship is a Carberry team skipped by Jeff Stewart (Alyssa Calvert, Trevor Calvert, Kylee Truscott), one of three rural teams in the event.
The competition includes three teams representing Pembina and a pair from Assiniboine Memorial along with single entries from Carberry, Charleswood, Deer Lodge, East St. Paul, Fort Rouge, Granite, Rorketon, and Stonewall.
Play begins with a four-game draw at Assiniboine Memorial at 7:30pm, Thursday, March 13 and continues through to the final game at 4:00pm, Sunday, March 16.
The Chicken Chef Mixed and the Dynasty U20 Mixed Doubles will run concurrently at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club through the weekend.
