CurlManitoba wishes to issue a public and very sincere message of appreciation to the Carberry and Riverview Curling Clubs for their instant positive responses when they were asked to come to the rescue as hosts of this week’s Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships.
A short-notice change of venue for the two championships became necessary when, last Friday, CIMCO, the Keystone Centre, and the Brandon Curling Club jointly concluded an immediate shutdown of the ice plant was necessary.
The issues relate to a slab leak, brine loss, and related risks of system failure as well as safety concerns.
“Our first, and really only, option was to find a way to run the events while allowing our competitors to maintain the accommodations which they had pre-arranged, and possibly pre-paid,” says CurlManitoba Executive Director Craig Baker. “Carberry and Riverview immediately made arrangements to ensure that the two championships will be completed as scheduled this weekend.”
“At the same time, we want to say thank you to the competitors for their cooperation and flexibility in an admittedly unpredictable situation,” Baker says.
All Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Men’s Championship games will be played in Carberry, beginning with practice on Tuesday and games starting Wednesday morning.
All Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Women’s Championship games will be played at Brandon’s Riverview Club, beginning with practice and games starting Thursday.
