Top Three Seeds Advance in Scotties Playoffs:
The Sunday playoff draw is set at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Bayer in Gimli and it features the teams named the top three seeds at the beginning of the week.
Third seed Darcy Robertson (Assiniboine Memorial) will play first seed Kerri Einarson (Gimli) in the 9am semi-final with the winner advancing to play second seed Tracy Fleury (East St. Paul) in the 3pm final game.
Fleury (Selena Njegovan, Liz Fyfe, Kristin, MacCuish, Coach Andrea Ronnebeck) advanced to the final with an 8-6 victory over Robertson (Karen Klein, Vanessa Foster, Theresa Cannon, Coach Kyle Foster). Fleury led 6-2 after four ends but Robertson fought back to tie 6-6 after eight. A deuce on the ninth gave Fleury the two point lead coming home and the East St. Paul team was able to defend the lead.
Einarson (Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard, Brianne Meilleur, Coach Patti Wuthrich) scored the only deuce in very entertaining game with Abby Ackland (Assiniboine Memorial) whose team had won the afternoon tiebreaker to reach the playoffs.
Tied 4-4 coming home, Einarson used the hammer to remove an Ackland counter and win 6-4.
Both the semi-final and final games will be broadcast on Sportsnet with Rob Faulds and Jill Officer describing the play.
