Four weeks into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame’s invitation for People’s Choice voting on Manitoba’s Most Notable Curling Team, Kerri Einarson and her 2020 Scotties Champion team, who missed their chance to go to a World Championship due to the pandemic, continue to hold the #1 ranking.
Terry Braunstein’s 1958 Manitoba champion team, the high school team which lost the Brier final, continues in the #2 position.
Voting, in the form of donations at canadahelps.org, has resulted in significant change in the Top 10. Most notably Kerry Burtnyk and his 1995 World Champions have moved from #8 to #4, Jennifer Jones and her team have moved from #13 to #8, and Connie Laliberte’s previously unranked 1984 World Champions have joined the list at #9 in the past two weeks.
In the first month, the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame’s Most Notable Manitoba Curling Team fund-raising project has received over $1,600 in People’s Choice donation-votes. Fifteen of the MCHoF&M’s original list of 25 teams have received support. In addition four teams have received Wild Card write-in support.
Behind the Einarson (Gimli) and Braunstein (Granite) teams in the People’s Choice Top 10 are two Deer Lodge teams, two more Granite teams, and one team from each of Fort Rouge, Assiniboine Memorial, St. Vital and Strathcona curling clubs.
