CurlManitoba has announced the venue for the 2018-19 Canola Junior Championships has been changed from the Melita Curling Club to Winnipeg’s Heather Curling Club. The dates remain unchanged with the event being scheduled January 2-7, 2019.
Awaiting completion of upgrades to the Melita Communiplex (arena & curling club), the Melita host committee has regretfully asked CurlManitoba to search for an alternative location in order to ensure the best possible championship experience for the junior curlers who have earned the opportunity over years of preparation.
The Melita host committee and CurlManitoba express sincere appreciation to the Heather Curling Club for their willingness, on short notice, to help a fellow Manitoba club facing a difficult decision due to unforeseen circumstances.
Working cooperatively, CurlManitoba and the Melita and Heather Curling Clubs have placed the best interests of the sport and the junior competitors at the heart of the decision. All parties believe this cooperation within the curling community will lead to a successful event for the curlers, coaches and spectators.
CurlManitoba believes Melita remains a viable venue and looks forward to the completion of the Communiplex upgrades so it can be considered for a future championship event.
