WEDNESDAY (Draws 1 &2): Top Seeds Win as Scotties Opens in Gimli
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Bayer is underway in Gimli as 16 teams from across Manitoba chase the dream of representing Manitoba at the national championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
The five top seeded teams all won their opening matches.
#1 Kerri Einarson (Gimli) defeated Joelle Brown (Charleswood) 9-2)
#2 Tracy Fleury (East St. Paul) defeated Tiffany McLean (Brandon) 8-2
#3 Darcy Robertson (Assiniboine Memorial) defeated Laura Burtnyk (Assiniboine Memorial) 8-4
#4 Allison Flaxey (Granite) defeated Rebecca Lamb (Stonewall) 7-3
#5 Beth Peterson (Assiniboine Memorial) defeated Abby Ackland (Assiniboine Memorial) 6-3.
In the other matches, former champion Barb Spencer (Assinibone Memorial), playing once again with her three daughters, jumped out to an early lead but gave up a pair of 4’s late in the game to lose 11-6 to Lisa Hale (Dauphin); Jennifer Clark-Rouire (Miami) won 9-1 over Alyssa Calvert (Brandon); and Kristy Watling (Fort Rouge) posted an 10-4 win over Terry Ursel (Arden/Lansdowne).
Play continues at the Gimli Recreation Centre with Wednesday games at 4pm and 8:15pm (following opening ceremonies).
