CurlManitoba hosted the Curling Club Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championship from March 14-17, 2019 at the Charleswood Curling Club in Winnipeg. There were 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams competing for the right to represent Manitoba at the 2019 Curling Club Championships being held November 25-30, 2019.
The men’s side needed a tiebreaker to determine the final playoff spot. Team Mike Johnson (Baldur) edged out Brent Mendella (Rossmere) to advance to one of the semi-finals, where the team lost to the undefeated Taylor team (Brandon). In the other semi-final, Team Jesse McCullough (Fort Garry) lost a close game to Team Blanchard (Assiniboine). In a back and forth final, it was Derek Blanchard and his team who ran Travis Taylor’s team out of rocks in the 8th end to earn an 8-5 win.
On the ladies side, Team Tracy Andries (Fort Rouge) defeated Jackie Dewar’s team (Elmwood) 6-5 in a back and forth game. Andries earned her way into the final by beating Darla Hanke (Neepawa) in one semi-final while Jackie Dewar beat Chantal Lagasse (St. Adolphe) in the other semi-final.
