Manitoba Curling’s renowned “Big 3” from the 1990’s all made significant moves up the People’s Choice ranking in the past week in the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame & Museum’s Most Notable Team balloting.
Jeff Stoughton’s 1999-2006 team made the most dramatic move, entering the ranking at #5 while Kerry Burtnyk’s 1995-2001 team moved up to #4 from #9 and Vic Peters 1992-1997 team moved to #7 from a tied at #10.
Don Duguid’s 1970 -1971 world champion team, tied with Peters at #10 a week earlier, moved up to #6 in the People’s Choice voting.
The top three remained unchanged in the past week. Gordon Hudson’s 1928 & 1929 team is #1, followed by #2 Kerri Einarson’s 2020 team and Jennifer Jones’ 2005-2020 team, although Team Jones’ fans closed the gap considerably in the past week with their donations.
Rounding out the top ten are #8 Braden Calvert’s 2014-2015 team; #9 Terry Braunstein’s 1958 team; and #10 Andrew Wickman’s Wild Card nominee team, the highest ranked of seven fan and family favourites nominated in the Wild Card category.
People’s Choice voting in the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame’s Most Notable Team fund-raiser will end December 13 and the MCHoF&M’s 30 person committee will announce its “official” ranking of the 25 nominated teams later next week. People’s Choice balloting, in the form of donations in the name of one of the 25 named teams, or your Wild Card nominee, can be done at canadahelps.org (search curling museum and follow links) or send email to [email protected] for direct link information.
