Butch Mouck’s team from Gilbert Plains won the Thistle Senior Men’s Bonspiel (on Sunday Nov.12th), topping Mark Franklin of Winnipeg’s Granite club 6-4 in the final.
Mouck went undefeated in the bonspiel, winning five straight games and leading his team of Glenn Parrott, Scott Gray, and James Barnett to a $1,600 prize and a berth in the Strathcona Trust Senior Men’s Provincials, to be held February 21-26, 2018 at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg.
Franklin settled for runner-up cash of $1,000, losing semi-finalists Dale Brooks of Hamiota and Alan Fitzmaurice of Brandon earned $800 apiece, and by winning the Consolation event Clyde Kindzierski of Deer Lodge received $500.
Mouck’s foursome is the fourth team to qualify for the Senior Provincials, joining defending champion Murray Warren of Deloraine, Ray Baker of Dauphin, and Franklin’s team. The next qualifier will come from the Senior Berth Bonspiel being held in Morden, MB from Nov.24-26.
