With a game yet to play Saturday, Jennifer Jones (St Vital) and Joelle Brown (Charleswood) have assured themselves of advancing to the playoff round of the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto.
Jones, with a 12-0 rout of Shannon Birchard (Thistle) and Brown with a 7-3 win over Lisa Hale-Menard (Dauphin) have both earned 5-1 records over their first six games.
The two have separated themselves from the rest of the group with Brianne Meilleur (Fort Rouge), Kristy Watling (Fort Rouge), Alysssa Calvert (Carberry) and Birchard all having only three wins in six games.
Meilleur lost 11-5 to Watling Friday evening in what was also, for the Meilleur team, a must-win game.
Yet to be determined is which of Jones and Brown will finish first. If both win or both lose on Saturday then Brown earns first place based on a round-robin win over Jones earlier in the week. If Brown loses to Calvert and Jones beats Meilleur, then Jones will earn first place.
In the fourth game Friday evening, Calvert`s third win came over Jennifer Briscoe (Burntwood) by a score of 9-4.
The standings, with a game to play, in the Asham Black Group are:
5-1 Jennifer Jones (St Vital)
5-1 Joelle Brown (Charleswood)
3-3 Brianne Meilleur (Fort Rouge)
3-3 Shannon Birchard (Thistle)
3-3 Kristy Watling (Fort Rouge)
