Three Remain Unbeaten at Scotties in Gimli: With a pair of victories each, the top three seeds finished Thursday’s play as the only undefeated teams in the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Bayer in Gimli.
Local favourite Kerri Einarson and her Gimli team continued to give their fans lots to cheer about Thursday as they followed a morning victory with a late afternoon win, 7-5 over the Abby Ackland team, to stay undefeated. They are the only undefeated team in the Asham Group.
Team Ackland (Assiniboine Memorial), skipped by Brandi Forrest, gave the Einarson foursome their toughest test so far. The game was tied 5-5 coming home but Einarson was able to use the hammer for victory.
Fourth seed Allison Flaxey (Granite), also tied coming home, stole a pair to defeat Lisa Hale (Dauphin) 8-6 and fifth seed Beth Peterson (Assiniboine Memorial) posted a 6-4 win over Rebecca Lamb (Stonewall). Both Peterson and Flaxey have 3-1 records.
The shot of the week so far was made by Barb Spencer (Assiniboine Memorial) – the winning shot on an extra end to defeat Joelle Brown (Charleswood). A perfect guard by Brown forced Spencer to a wide in turn draw which she placed perfectly in the four foot past a buried Brown stone already biting the four foot circle.
Team Spencer and Team Ackland both have 2-2 records. Brown and Hale are 1-3 while Lamb is winless.
In the Asham Express Group, #2 Tracy Fleury (East St. Paul), with a 7-2 win over Alyssa Calvert (Brandon), and #3 Darcy Robertson (Assiniboine Memorial), with a 15-8 win over Terry Ursel (Arden/Lansdowne), both stayed perfect after four draws.
Ursel and Calvert both dropped to 1-3, behind Jennifer Clark-Rouire (Miami) at 3-1 and Kristy Watling (Fort Rouge) at 2-2 after two days of play.
Watling defeated Tiffany McLean (Brandon) 9-5 and Clark-Rouire scored two coming home to beat Laura Burtnyk (Assiniboine Memorial) 9-8 on the late draw Thursday.
Burtnyk is with Ursel and Calvert at 1-3 while McLean is winless in four starts.
