Final Day Recap:
The Semi-Final saw club mates Kristy Watling and Kaitlyn Jones from the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club face off in a back and forth battle. Team Watling jumped out to a 4-1 lead after a steal of 2 in the third end and another stolen point in the fourth end, but an error on Watling’s last rock gave Team Jones the opportunity to score three points and tie the game at the halfway mark. The turning point came in the seventh end when Team Watling stole 2 more points as Kaitlyn Jones’ double attempt wrecked on a guard. Team Kristy Watling advanced to the Championship final with an 8-6 victory.
In the Final, it was Team Zacharias who started with hammer and got out to an early lead after scoring 2 points in the second end. Team Watling answered with a deuce of their own in the third end, and at the halfway point we were once again in a deadlock – tied 3-3. Team Watling stole a single point in the sixth end to take their first lead of the match, however a beautiful hit and roll by Mackenzie Zacharias in the seventh end set up a score of 2 and once again gave the team from Altona control of the game. After Team Watling was forced to a single point in the eighth end and the ninth end was blanked, the Championship Final was all tied up heading to the final end. Team Zacharias lead, Lauren Lenentine executed two perfect tick shots allowing for a straight forward conclusion to the game. Mackenzie Zachairas made the open take-out with her final shot to secure the victory and become the newly crowned 2022 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts Champions.
