Carruthers – McEwen Final Game at Viterra Championship
Mike McEwen’s Fort Rouge team has advanced to the final game of the Viterra Championship with a 6-2 victory Sunday morning over the junior champion JT Ryan (Assiniboine Memorial).
On the opening end, Ryan missed a short runback and allowed Team McEwen skip BJ Neufeld a draw for two. It was the kind of runback which had been automatic all week for the young skip and it was a sign of things to come.
Team McEwen stole two on the second end for a four point lead and cruised to a 6-2, eight end victory.
Team McEwen, still playing with three players with Mike McEwen “under the weathera, will advance to the 3pm final game against Reid Carruthers and his 2015 Manitoba champion team from West St. Paul.
2018 represents the fifth consecutive year in which Team McEwen has reached the Manitoba final game. The two-time defending champions defeated Carruthers in 2017 and Matt Dunstone in 2016 after having lost the final to Caruthers in 2015 and to Jeff Stoughton (with Carruthers at second) in 2014.
