William Lyburn of the Granite Curling Club defeated Jason Gunnlaugson of the Morris Curling Club (Cargill Training Centre) 6-2 in the semifinal of the 2019 Viterra Championship in Virden, Manitoba.
The first three ends of the game were blanked until the fourth end where Gunnlaugson took one point. Lyburn responded in the next end with a deuce leading the game 2-1 going into the fifth-end break. The next two ends were blanks until the eighth end where Lyburn stole another point to go up 3-1. Gunnlaugson took one in the ninth end to make the score 3-2. Lyburn finished off the game by scoring three in the tenth end to make the final 6-2.
Lyburn (Daley Peters, Kyle Doering, & Brendan Bilawka) will face Reid Carruthers (Mike McEwen, Derek Samagalski, & Colin Hodgson) in the final at 2:30 p.m. CT., which will be televised on Sportsnet. The winner will represent Manitoba at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon, Manitoba March 2-10, 2019.
