Tracy Fleury (East St. Paul) has defeated hometown favourite Kerri Einarson in the final game of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Bayer in Gimli. Fleury’s foursome will represent Manitoba at the national Scotties in Sydney, Nova Scotia in February.
Fleury (Selena Njegovan, Liz Fyfe, Kristin, MacCuish, Coach Andrea Ronnebeck)) gave up a five-ender on the second end but proved the old curling wisdom – you can comeback from a big end if it is early in the game.
The patient Fleury team scored seven over the next four ends to lead 8-6 after six ends enroute to 13-7 victory, which ended with a stolen three on the ninth end.
For Einarson (Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard, Brianne Meilleur, Coach Patti Wuthrich) it was disappointment after being seeded first, topping their round robin group and winning a pair of playoff games to reach the final.
